The Priory Shopping Centre has joined Crohn’s and Colitis
UK’s campaign by installing an accessible toilet sign highlighting that not
every disability is visible.
Over 300,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Crohn’s
Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel
For those living with Crohn’s and Colitis, as well as
other health conditions, the sudden uncontrollable need to use a toilet is an
especially challenging medical symptom.
Unfortunately when using accessible toilets, those with
Crohn’s and Colitis are often unfairly criticised and judged because others
perceive them to be ‘well’ and therefore not entitled to use of these
We understand how hidden disabilities affect people’s
day-to-day lives and by simply installing this sign, we hope this will have a
positive impact on our customers who live with Crohn’s and Colitis and other
hidden disabilities to reduce feelings of isolation and giving them the
confidence to leave their home and visit our shopping centre.
